Engaging clients in a collaborative, client-centered approach
Steve Chambers is a Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas-based residential architect and President of Stephen B. Chambers Architects Inc. Chambers Architects specializes in custom home design, remodeling, and historic renovation. Steve Chambers is a licensed architect and licensed interior designer in Texas and a licensed architect in Oklahoma and Colorado with over 40 years of experience. His distinctive designs have won many awards and have been seen in many national publications. From Texas Ranch to Regional Modern to English Cotswold homes, Steve Chambers’ architecture is timeless, elegant, and suited to fit the individual needs and desires of each client. “Creating the feeling of home has nothing to do with a house’s size, nor does it require a particular style. It has to do with the character, quality, and details within the three-dimensional space. Hiring an architect helps the client achieve truly customized living spaces and creates a structure that can inspire its inhabitants everyday.”
Steve Chambers’ Texas modern residential architecture has often been referred to as Regional Modernism. This particular approach to design uses a structure’s geographical context in an attempt to counter the often placelessness and uniform identity that was seen in the International Style of modern architecture. Regionalism is not vernacular or folk architecture, but rather an avant-garde approach that originates from referencing the details, geometry, materials, form and massing of structures specific to a locale or region.
Steve has intentionally kept his Dallas architectural firm small since 1975 so that he can work with every client through every phase of the design process. Steve engages his clients in a collaborative, client-centered approach to the design of their homes. It is a core value for the firm that what evolves from this process is far more relevant to the needs of his clients and forms the foundation for good architecture. Our firm collaborates with the clients throughout the process. Without this, the architect’s work is mere decoration of the landscape and an extension of the ego of the architect. Stephen B. Chambers Architects, Inc. also believes in using the principles of Sustainable Design and Universal Design. The architect’s responsibility is first to the client, but he is also mindful of the community and the world as a whole.
As a licensed architect, licensed interior designer, and former general contractor, Steve understands how each of these disciplines must come together to achieve a balanced and unified result.
