Built in 1895, this historic East Texas home in Marshall, TX, has all of the charm and detail of the originally designed home, but is currently lacking many of the modern amenities that most of us have come to expect.
The original Victorian floor plan features large porches, ample reception area with dual parlors on each side of the home, pocket doors, and the original paneling, casing, and trim of curly pine which has never been painted.
The residential architect collaborated with the owners to develop a plan to create a master bath, closets, storage, modern insulation, high-efficiency heating and air conditioning, high performance windows and doors, and dismantle an unfortunate and inaccurate remodel that covers the original deep porches on the back of the home. The anticipated outcome is a historically accurate rehabilitation and renovation of a beautiful Victorian design, yet reduction in the energy consumption by the addition of newer, sustainable materials, systems, products, details, and appliances.
