The Ute Trail Ranch is located near Lake City, Colorado, and is the only city in Hinsdale County. Ninety-six percent of the county consists of public lands. It has the fewest miles of roads per person, the most land area located far from roads, and the most county in the contiguous United States. It boasts four wilderness areas and two wilderness study, and is located at the crossroads of two major scenic byways: Silver Thread Scenic Byway and Alpine Loop Backcountry Byway. The entirety of Lake City is designated National Historic District with over two hundred historic structures. There is five hundred feet of original boardwalk in the historic downtown. Nearby Lake San Cristobal is the second largest natural lake in the state.
Stephen B. Chambers Architects recently visited the Ute Trail Ranch site to plan a new home on a cliff overlooking the Gunnison River.
